Gmail Motion

Friday, April 1, 2011
In 1874 the QWERTY keyboard was created. In 1963, the world was introduced to the mouse. About 50 years later, we have seen the emergence of microprocessors, high-resolution webcams, and spatial tracking technology. But all the while we continue to use outdated technology to interact with the device. Why?

Are questions that we've been thinking about a lot on Google, and we're excited to introduce our first attempt at next generation human computer interaction: Gmail Motion. Gmail Motion allows you to control the Gmail - composing and replying to a message - use your body.

Motion To use Gmail, you will need a computer with a built-in webcam. Once you turn on Motion of Gmail Settings page, Gmail will activate your webcam when you sign in and automatically recognize any of the movements detected through a spatial tracking algorithm.Google design for easy and intuitive motion to perform and consult with experts on the kinestetics and body movements in in design them.

We have been testing Gmail Motion by Googlers during the last few months and have been very excited about the feedback we've heard. Google also did some internal tests to measure the increase in productivity and find a 14% increase in average speed of the composition of email and 12% reduction in average time in your inbox. With Gmail Motion, Googlers can get more done and in and out of their inbox faster.

Motion To use Gmail, you'll need the latest version of Google Chrome or Firefox 3.5 + and a built-in webcam. If not already enabled on your account, sit tight - google will make it available to everyone during the next day or so.
